There was All Ireland heartbreak for the Gailltir camogie team at Croke Park this afternoon as Clonduff won a hard fought intermediate final by ten points to nine in difficult conditions.
Captain and player of the match Paula O'Hagan hit six points for the winners.
The Down side led by five after eleven minutes but Gailltir battled back as Annie Fitzgerald converted four placed balls and Clodagh Carroll was on target from play. Fitzgerald won a penalty in first half injury time but Aine Lyng's effort was smothered on the goal line. Clonduff enjoyed a 0-7 to 0-5 advantage at the break.
Sarah Louise Carr and O'Hagan put Clonduff four clear on the restart. Three Fitzgerald points closed the gap to one entering the closing stages. Gailltir also spurned four goal chances.
A late O'Hagan free eased the pressure on Clonduff but Aine Lyng replied at the other end. Time ran out for the blue and navy however as the Yellas came through by the narrowest of margins.
