Gaultier became both the second and the new holders of the Greg Fives Cup when they had 0-2 to spare over the holders, Ballinacourty in the County under 20 A football championship final in  Walsh Park on Sunday afternoon.

The teams were level at 0-3 each after 21 minutes and it was in the remainder of the first half that the Barony laid the foundations for their victory, scoring 0-4 to Ballinacourty’s solitary score.

The standard of the first half was greater than after the break but Gaultier were not complaining as they led by 0-10 to 0-5 with 49 minutes on the clock. Tom Fitzgerald, Eoin McSweeney, Mark Fitzgerald and Gavin Buckley were Gaultiers’ leading scorers with 0-2 each while it was Ballinacourty who finished the stronger with points by Charlie Treen,  Billy O Connell - his fifth score of the match - and DJ Kiely (f).

In the final quarter, Ballinacourty tried their utmost to hold on to their title but the Gaultier defence stood firm. Led by JJ Kavanagh Man of the Match Donnacha Fitzpatrick, Daniel Kiely and the hard-working Mark Fitzgerald i lar na pairce they achieved their narrow but deserving win at the final whistle.
