
There was a true local success at Wexford this evening as ‘Fraher Field’ landed the concluding bumper for her West Waterford connections – shedding her maiden tag at the fifth time of asking.
Sent off at odds of 9/4 and ridden by Ardmore jockey John Gleeson, the five-year-old rallied well when headed late on to get up again before the line and land a half-length success for trainers John and Tommy Kiely.
The Order of St. George mare is owned by John Flynn, Pierce Flynn and Conor Lannen.
It was one of two Waterford successes at Wexford today, as Lady Doyenne (6/4) also shed her maiden tag for Knockeen trainer Henry de Bromhead. She justified favouritism to take the opener over two miles, guided home by Darragh O’Keeffe.
In the UK, Dungarvan jockey Trevor Whelan is no stranger to the winners enclosure of late and he found himself there at Newmarket once again – as 11/4 shot First Time trained by Harry Charlton landed a 6-furlong stakes by a neck.
