Fourmilewater power past 12-man Mount Sion

Fourmilewater got their Waterford Senior Hurling Championship campaign off to a flying start last night by beating last year's finalists Mount Sion.

2-18 to 0-14 was the final score, with goals from Sean Walsh and Michael Morrissey proving crucial for Michael Ryan's men in Carrickbeg.

It was a disappointing night for Mount Sion - who ended the game with 12 players with Mikey Daykin, Jamie Gleeson and Austin Gleeson all receiving red cards.

Winning manager Michael Ryan told WLR Sport that the sending offs did affect the match, but his side were always in control.

"They had some effect on the game - but I felt that we were hurling really really well. Unless we did something foolish, we were going to go on and win the game. We couldn't let it affect us. We just kept hurling away and using the same plan, working the ball up the field and our running off the shoulder was excellent. At the end of the day, it was the performance of our lads - everyone of them worked so hard. They're good hurlers - that's what got us the result."

Fourmilewater can guarantee qualification for the quarter-finals with a win over Tallow in their next outing.
