Fourmilewater grab first win

Goals from Michael Morrissey and Sean Walsh fired Fourmilewater to a nine point victory over Ferrybank in Dungarvan on Saturday evening (2-20 to 0-17).

Aaron Ryan and Tom Barron played starring roles as Derek Lyons' men secured their first win of the 2024 championship. Ryan shot eleven points (eight from play) while Barron was brilliant in the air at number six. Neil O'Sullivan and Ruaidhri McGarrity fired three points apiece for Ferrybank.

1-2 from Michael Morrissey helped Fourmilewater into an eight point lead after just eleven minutes (1-7 to 0-2). Ferrybank fought back as Caolan Mac Cathmhaoil, Neil O'Sullivan, Ruaidhri McGarrity and MJ Sutton narrowed the gap to three. Aaron Ryan struck seven first half points (five from play) as Fourmile led 1-11 to 0-10 at the break.

White flags from O'Sullivan and McGarrity at the start of the second half left Ferrybank just two adrift. That was as close as the 2023 Premier Intermediate champions got.

Points by Jamie Barron, Aaron Ryan and Dermot Ryan settled the leaders. Fourmile goalkeeper Stephen Ryan blocked a low shot from MJ Sutton with eleven minutes left. Tom Barron cut out ball after ball at centre back.

In injury time, Ferrybank netminder Cormac O'Driscoll denied Sean Walsh with a spectacular save. Fourmile kept the attack alive and Walsh got his goal in the end.
