Former Waterford captain Brian Flannery says that Roanmore attacker Gavin O'Brien has been one of the stars of this year's senior hurling championship.

The Sky Blues will meet De La Salle in the last four on Sunday afternoon at Walsh Park. O'Brien has scored 36 points in three games including 15 against Mount Sion last weekend.

"For the last decade, he has been one of the best club hurlers in Waterford. There's a handful of players in that bracket: Tommy Ryan, Maurice Shanahan. Gavin O'Brien fits comfortably in that company. He carries a lot of the load for his club and has done so year after year after year. He has all the skills. The last day in Carriganore, some of the scores he got from play from out on the sideline were fantastic. Obviously his free taking made the headlines but his overall play has been absolutely outstanding."

Brian Flannery will preview both senior hurling semi finals on Lár Na Páirce from 6.10 this evening.
