Waterford enjoyed a 21 point win over Limerick in Round 2 of the All Ireland Camogie Championship at a sunny Walsh Park this afternoon (5-15 to 0-9). Mairéad O'Brien netted two first half goals for Jerry Wallace's side while Orla Hickey, Maggie Gostl and Annie Fitzgerald also raised green flags.
The hosts led by fifteen at half time after playing with the breeze towards the Keane’s Road (2-11 to 0-2). O'Brien batted to the roof of the Limerick net on 19 minutes after approach work from Beth Carton and Mairéad Power. The Modeligo forward added another in injury time when Niamh Rockett set her up. The full forward finished the half on 2-1 from play.
Rockett was on fire in the corner with three points. Beth Carton, Róisín Kirwan and Tara Power also contributed. Orlaith Kelleher and Caoimhe Costelloe raised white flags for Limerick.
Rebecca Delee and Carton traded points at the start of the second half before Orla Hickey billowed the bottom corner on 41 minutes. The leaders rang the changes and minor star Maggie Gostl got her senior debut. Within four minutes of her introduction, the De La Salle forward found the top corner of the net. She was also involved in Waterford's fifth green flag which was finished by another substitute Annie Fitzgerald.
Gostl was denied her second major in the last minute by Limerick netminder Ciara Mulqueen. Alannah O'Sullivan knocked over an injury time point. The home team could even rest Carton eleven minutes from the end. She scored six points for the runaway winners.
The Déise will be on the road to Kilkenny next weekend.
