Christmas is looking good for Cue Sports in Waterford this year as Dungarvan is going to get a '5 Star' Community sports facility fitted out to the highest spec with two top-class Star Snooker tables, a Premium top of the range Pool table, lounge, rest area, games room and top of the range tv room on O'Connell Street in the town.
One of the key people driving this project is none other than Waterford's Dylan Rees who just happens to be the Chairman of Snooker and Billiards Ireland and a member of the SBI Republic of Ireland squad en-route to Portugal in October to play in the European amateur snooker championships.
The project has been underway for two years now and there will be ongoing work on O'Connell Street right up to Christmas when the working group hope to have a Holiday time to remember in 'The Dungarvan Club'.
There is a lot of excitement surrounding the venture and the club itself will be a members club and open to all age groups and will be completely accessible and fitted out to the highest spec.
Dyan Rees said "We are really excited about the new Dungarvan Club and cannot understate how plush and top-spec this club will be and one of our main objectives is to provide the community with a facility for all age groups, gender, and ability. I hope to be part of a team that encourages young juniors to take up cue sports and there will be coaching for all levels and support in all areas. Dungarvan and Waterford in general in past years has had a very successful tradition in Snooker with the Showboat Club, Dungarvan snooker club with Michael Bumpster, Hawks Nest and of course, the current All Ireland Championship Section champions Norris's and we want to get cue sports back on the map in West Waterford."
Rees is a big advocate for Disability snooker and competes on the World Snooker disability tour, but his main focus over the coming weeks with the slow re-opening of indoor sports to elite sportspeople is the return to National representation as the Waterford man moves back into International duty and jets off to Portugal to play in Albufeira with the Irish squad to play in the Masters (Over 40's) European team and individual championships from October the 2nd until the 17th of October.
Rees added "It is always an honour to represent Ireland and I will play with my good friend John O'Sullivan from Kilkenny in the team event. We reached the quarter-final in Serbia a few years back and we will really want to go further this time around.
The Masters have a real Munster feel to the side with Limerick's Mark Tuite and Frank Sarsfield the other two players, plus our squad includes our Senior stars and junior players too, so it is something to look forward to, but I am just as excited about our new club on the horizon in Dungarvan and all going well it shouldn't be too long more".
