Dungarvan set up a senior hurling quarter final clash against near neighbours Abbeyside next weekend with a hard fought 0-18 to 0-15 win over Fourmilewater in the Fraher Field sunshine on Saturday.

Father and son came up against each other as Darragh Lyons returned to the Dungarvan defence to face a Fourmile team managed by his dad Derek. The county man made a crucial goal line clearance from Ciaran Walsh with two minutes left. Derek congratulated his son when they met in the middle of the field afterwards.

In a scrappy encounter, nine Michael Kiely placed balls as well as telling contributions from Cathal Curran (0-3), Tristan Loftus (0-2) and Sean Crotty (0-2) got Dungarvan over the line. Curran man marked Jamie Barron throughout. The three-time All Star saw a last gasp strike at goal blocked down by Jack Lacey. The Ballymacarbry men were guilty of thirteen wides. Fourmile lost top scorer Aaron Ryan to injury after just 21 minutes and he was stretchered away in an ambulance after the game.

Six second half frees from Kiely left Dungarvan 15-11 ahead after 54 minutes. Two Evan Spellman dead balls and Tholom Guiry's second from play narrowed the gap to one entering six added minutes. Patrick Curran fended off four defenders before he delivered his first point of the evening. With Kiely off the field injured, Cathal Curran nailed a long distance free before Eoin O'Callaghan wrapped up the win.
