Former Déise defender Brian Flannery believes that Waterford goal getter Dessie Hutchinson was the star of the 2021 NHL. The Ballygunner attacker scored 3-5 from play including stunning strikes against Galway and Tipperary.
"Within Waterford and outside Waterford, I think the one name that is to the forefront in relation to the performances this season is Dessie Hutchinson. He's not just been Waterford's player of the league, he's been the player of the league. He's been nothing but outstanding. He has developed further. A great introduction last season, an All Star nomination, but he has moved it up another step this year. The goal of the season competition is really a Dessie Hutchinson highlight reel at this stage. He's going to be a huge player, particularly with a summer championship this year. I expect that he will be pivotal in Waterford's attack. He's really been the player to watch in the league campaign. He is certainly my player of the league, not just Waterford's player of the league."
