Waterford FC 0 Derry City 1
Derry City made it four wins from four against Waterford this season with a win that was scarcely deserved at the RSC.
The Blues had manager Keith Long in the stands as he started a 3 match ban for his red card last week and there were two changes for the home side as Rowan McDonald and Grant Horton returned the starting eleven after missing last week's cup game with knocks.
Waterford started brightly forcing two early chances through right wing runs from Podge Amond and Darragh Power but the Derry defence held firm.
Derry had a chance to break the deadlock on 35 minutes when Paul McMullen's shot came back off the upright and the Blues could have done likewise on the stroke of half time when Brian Maher dived full length to deny Darragh Leahy.
Waterford themselves were denied by the woodwork on 55 minutes when a Christie Pattisson shot had Maher well beaten and five minutes later Derry got the breakthrough when Louis Jones was adjudged to have carried the ball behind the line as he gathered a Ben Doherty header from under the crossbar.
