Ciaran Curran claimed his first win as Waterford ladies football manager as they got the better of Wexford by 0-12 to 0-3 in their Division 2 opener at the Gold Coast this afternoon. Captain for the day Maria Delahunty kicked four points (three from play) as the hosts dominated from start to finish. With wind assistance, Waterford led by six points to one at the break. Delahunty and Kate McGrath were on target twice. The home defence held firm in the second period as Wexford could only muster three frees from Fiona Rochford. Delahunty, Eimear Fennell, Aileen Wall and Michelle Ryan raised white flags as Waterford ran out nine point winners.
Full forward Ryan is back for her nineteenth season in a county shirt. She said that her love of the game persuaded her to give it one more year.
