Waterford camogie boss Derek Lyons is looking to rebuild his squad in Division 2 this spring.

The Déise have lost seven players off the 2021 panel. After beating Westmeath in round one, they welcome Kilkenny to the WIT Arena on Saturday for a 2 o'clock throw in. Promotion is not the only thing on his mind.

"It's important but what's more important is that we develop a squad that's able to compete in Division 1 again. We need to get back to a position where we have a strong panel to compete for titles. My whole focus is to make improvements and bring the panel on. If that means we're lucky enough to go back up this year, great. If not, as long as we're putting in the right foundations and the right structures and the right training regimes that's the key for us as a management team. Of course, we want to go back up as soon as we can but when we go back up, we need to be ready for the challenges of Division 1. Not just to compete, we need to be up there and challenging."
