Waterford FC 2 Drogheda United 2
Two defensive errors have cost Waterford FC yet another win as they were held to a two all draw by Drogheda United in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division at the RSC.
John Coleman named an unchanged side with Rowan McDonald remaining in the back three alongside Darragh Leahy and Ryan Burke.
And the home side got the breakthough on nineteen minutes when Tommy Lonergan was put through by Padraig Amond. He calmly turned to wrong foot a number of defenders before slotting the ball home for his fifth of the season.
However, the lead lasted just four minutes when Waterford were, once again, punished for poor defending from a corner kick when Shane Farrell floated the ball for Warren Davis and he headed home unchallenged from close range.
Waterford had two chances deep in injury time, the first from Conan Noonan who was put through by James Olayinka and then Lonergan who nearly had a carbon copy opportunity that produced the goal but his effort was blocked by Andrew Quinn.
It remained like that until nine minutes from time when a Dean McMenamy shot was deflected into the net by Amond to put the Blues ahead but once again, poor defending at a corner cost them dearly. In the fourth minute of added time Kieran Cruise’s delivery flew towards the back post where Conor Keeley forced it home off the woodwork.
