De La Salle are bidding to reach their third Waterford Senior Hurling Championship final in just six seasons this weekend.
Standing in the way of Ian Flynn's men are none other than their city rivals Mount Sion - a team who have beaten everyone they've met by at least sixteen points this season.
Speaking to WLR Sport as part of our build-up to this weekend's semi-final double header live from Walsh Park, Ian Flynn admitted that it is an arduous task that faces his men come throw in at 3.15.
This time last year, De La Salle were in an entirely different predicament - preparing for a relegation play-off with Ballysaggart, with their senior status at stake.
This year, Flynn's side have rallied and stood up to be counted. They defeated Passage in their group, before swatting aside Tallow in the preliminary knockouts, and avenging defeat at the hands of Dungarvan last year to knock out the Old Boro with seven points to spare last Saturday.
Flynn says that everything they have asked of the group has been reciprocated this season.
"At the start of the year, when we met - it was just about getting the lads to buy in. In fairness to them, anything we did or asked, they bought in from the start. They've put in a huge effort this year. We're glad that they're getting the results this year - last year, we didn't get the results and we ended up in relegation but we felt that we had more in us. Thankfully, they're getting results this year and we're in bonus territory now. It's been a big improvement."
It was a fine performance from De La Salle in last weekend's quarter-final triumph against Dungarvan, as they plundered 2-24 on their way to the last four. He says he always felt his side had a performance like that in them, it was just a case of eventuality.
"We felt that in the last few weeks that the lads were coming good but there was more in them. Last Saturday, things just started to click. Scores that sometimes weren't started going over - and that's pretty much what got us over the line."
The attention now switches on how to stop Mount Sion - with the De La Salle boss admitting that stifling the influence of Austin Gleeson on proceedings will likely go a long way. He says it will be difficult to swing the margin that has existed between the teams in the recent past, but Flynn feels his side are prepared to take on the challenge.
"On his day, Austin is probably the best hurler in the country. Look - it's a local derby. The rivalry is huge but at the same time, we have a great respect for each other. There'll be a lot of friends lining out against one another. We have a lot to overturn. They beat us by eleven points last year, and the year before they won by four points. We're under no illusions as to how hard a task we face but our boys will be ready and they'll give everything that they can."
It's not just at senior level that De La Salle face D-Day this week, with their minor side also in action at county final level on Friday evening. Come Sunday evening, it could be a week that lives long in the memory of those who don the red and white.
"It'd be huge for everyone in the club. It's a massive week for the club in general - the minors are in the county final on Friday night. It's a huge week for the club. It's one that everyone is looking forward to. Hopefully we can get two good results this week - but look, it's a massive task. Personally, and for the club - it would be huge."
Jack Fagan will be suspended for the weekend's clash following a red card versus Dungarvan - but one young man who has stepped up significantly this year is young forward Reuben Halloran. He scored an excellent goal in the win against the Old Boro, and Flynn says they were initially having to plan without him for the 2022 campaign.
"Reuben is still very young, you know in his career. To be fair, at the start of the year, he was told that he wouldn't hurl this year at all because of injury. Reuben is so professional in everything that he does and he has got back ahead of schedule. It's been a massive boost to us having him this year, because we were told that at the start - he wouldn't play at all."
Revenge doesn't come into the equation for De La Salle despite recent losses at the hands of their city rivals - and their manager says their prerogative this Sunday will be delivering a performance that everyone knows they are capable of. Should they deal their best hand, they will certainly be in with a shout come the final whistle.
"Ah, not really - because it was last year. It's a different game. We just try to focus on ourselves all this week now and try and bring our own A-game. It's about getting a performance on Sunday. We feel the lads are ready to give that performance. Whether it's good or not, time will tell but the lads are certainly in with a good shout."
Throw in on Sunday is at 3.15 and WLR will bring you the game live thanks to George Corbett Skoda with Tomas McCarthy and Stephen Frampton on commentary duty.
