Davy Fitzgerald is set to be confirmed as the new Antrim senior hurling manager this evening.

The Clare man left his role as Waterford boss at the end of this season's Munster Senior Hurling Championship with the Deise having failed to make it to the All-Ireland series.

He had the option of taking up a third year at the helm in Waterford, but chose not to do so - with Peter Queally having taken over as his successor this week.

Fitzgerald will replace Darren Gleeson who stepped down after five years and guided Antrim to Joe McDonagh Cup wins in 2020 and '22, keeping them in the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2023 and '24.

It will be the fourth county that Fitzgerald has managed - having intitially managed Waterford for the first time in 2008, before taking over his native Clare and then moving on to Wexford before returning to the Deise for a second stint.

He landed All-Ireland and National League titles for Clare in 2013 and won another league with the Banner in 2016.

When he took charge of Wexford he led them to a Leinster Championship in 2019.

Fitzgerald has been consistently involved as an inter-county player, manager or coach every year since 1989.
