Waterford’s David McGlynn delivered an outstanding performance at the Dublin City Marathon, finishing fifth overall and capturing the Irish National Marathon title in a personal best of 2 hours 11 minutes.
He became the first male athlete from Waterford to claim the Irish Marathon crown since 1993, a milestone moment for the city and for Waterford Athletics Club.
Personal Best Under Local Guidance
McGlynn smashed his previous best time of 2:15:26, which he set at last year’s Dublin City Marathon, his debut at the distance. He trains locally under coach Ray Tracey of Waterford AC, whose guidance has helped him progress rapidly on the national stage.
McGlynn ran confidently throughout the race, staying close to the leaders before producing a strong finish to secure the national title.
Pride for Waterford Athletics
Members of Waterford AC praised McGlynn’s dedication and consistency, describing his win as a defining moment for the club. His success adds to Waterford’s growing reputation for producing elite athletes and sets him up for further national and international ambitions.
