Waterford born striker Darryl Murphy may be on the verge of returning to international football, twelve months after announcing his retirement.

Darryl who has been in great form for Nottingham Forest in recent weeks has reportaably been approached by Mick McCarthy about the possibility of returning to the Irish fold.

Murphy and McCarthy built up an excellent relationship when they worked together for three seasons at Ipswich Town. Mick McCarthy is aware of the shortage of firepower ahead of the upcoming qualifying games.

It it also understood that Mick McCarthy has made an approach to Will Keane, the Hull City striker who is currently on loan to Ipswich Town. Keane scored the winning goal for The Tractor Boys against Rotherham  United on Saturday last.
