Darragh O’Sullivan has stepped down as Ballygunner senior hurling manager with Jason Ryan set to take over.

O’Sullivan guided the Gunners to six successive Waterford Senior Hurling Championship titles, three successive Munster club titles and their famed 2022 All-Ireland success in his time at the helm.

He also had a storied playing career with the club, winning six county medals and a Munster club medal between 1992 and 2004.

The Gunners won an 11th consecutive Waterford Senior Hurling Championship title in September, and O’Sullivan’s last game in charge was their Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship Final defeat to Sarsfields on December 1st.

His successor, Jason Ryan managed the Wexford senior footballers for five years, while he also had a stint in charge of Kildare.

He most recently served as a selector to the Wexford senior hurling panel, and has been involved with various sides at club level.

Ballygunner will begin their bid for a twelfth Waterford Senior Hurling Championship when they take on Abbeyside Ballinacourty in their group opener.

They’ll also take on De La Salle, Roanmore, Brickey Rangers and Clonea in the group phase.
