Overall, Cork delivered a dominant display to beat Waterford 3-25 to 1-17. The Déise endured a difficult afternoon that ended with Sean Walsh receiving a red card in stoppage time.
From the throw-in, Cork started fast and hit 10 points inside the opening 10 minutes. In contrast, Waterford struggled to match the intensity. As a result, first-half goals from Alan Connolly and a Declan Dalton penalty built a 2-16 to 0-09 half-time lead.
Early in the second half, Waterford offered brief hope when Shane Bennett converted a penalty to make it 2-19 to 1-11. However, Cork responded immediately. William Buckley struck a superb one-handed goal at the other end.
Meanwhile, Reuben Halloran led Waterford’s scoring. Ultimately, Cork controlled possession and territory to run out deserved winners. Finally, Waterford’s day worsened when Walsh was sent off for raising his hurley.
