Waterford youngster Conor Cusack has landed his first two career winners in the space of a week.
The youngster, who works as an apprentice for Butlerstown trainer Henry de Bromhead, tasted his first career success last week – rode Catena Zapata (2/1) to victory at Killarney last night.
“He has missed the break on his last couple of runs so I was expecting it and the blinkers definitely helped today, as I was able to get him back up to the pack quickly enough,” the 17-year-old told Irish Racing.
“I walked the track before racing and it was only cut up around the bottom bend but on the straight it wasn’t too bad. Hopefully things keep going and a massive thanks to Henry who has trusted me with two nice horses. I’m light enough so hope to stay at this game – I’m not too fond of the table!”, said Cusack.
Cusack landed his first career success last week aboard the de Bromhead-trained Stepdance (9/4) at Limerick.
“It’s a great feeling. I was supposed to be out in Spain on holidays but the availability came up to ride this one so I said I’d book a flight home early and thank-God it’s worked out,” said Cusack.
Cusack dedicated the victory to his friend – Henry’s late son, Jack de Bromhead.
