Waterford's Kelyn Cassidy has won his opening bout at the World Boxing Qualifiers for the Paris Olympics.
He was a unanimous decision winner on the judge's scorecards in Milan with every official picking the Waterford man as the winner.
The first round opened up scrappy with his Greek opponent, Michail Tsamalidis, trying to break Cassidy's rhythm, but the Savior's Crystals boxer won that round, and every round that followed.
In the second, both boxers were given public warnings for holding - with both docked a point.
In the third, Cassidy started to take control of the fight having started sharper than his opponent who started to slow as the round progressed. Tsamalidis was docked another point for holding in the final round, with Cassidy finishing in dominant fashion.
His second bout will be later this week when he faces Guatemalan Wyatt Trujillo. It was scheduled to happen on Friday, but a change to the running order means it may happen a day earlier or later with the tournament organisers still to release an updated bout order.
