Former Derry City defender Hayden Cann has been confirmed as the latest signing by Waterford FC ahead of the 2026 season.
The 22 year old started his career at Lincoln City where he was signed as an 8 year old and made his debut at 17 in the EFL Trophy before signing his first professional contract the following day.
Loan moves saw him play at a number of English National League clubs before spending the first half of the 2024 season at Drogheda United where he played 19 times scoring once. A move up the motorway to Oriel Park for the second half of the season saw him link up with Jon Daly and though he couldn’t help Dundalk avoid relegation, his contributions earned him a move to Derry City for 2025.
Speaking to Waterford’s media department he commented:
“I’m buzzing to be signing for the club. I’m looking forward to working with Jon again after working with him previously & getting to know the lads. I know how tough a place the RSC is to come and get points, so I’m looking forward to playing here and meeting all the fans next season.”
Blues Head Coach Jon Daly also expressed his keenness to work with Cann once more:
“I’m delighted to bring Hayden to Waterford. He’s a young defender with tremendous potential, real composure on the ball, and the hunger to keep improving. Hayden fits the type of character and quality we want at the club, and I’ve no doubt he’ll make a big impact for us this season.”
