Box office GAA weekend for Waterford sides

Box office GAA weekend for Waterford sides

It's less than six days to go until a major weekend for Waterford Gaelic Games.

Ballymacarbry play in their first All-Ireland since 1998 on Saturday when they meet Kilkerrin/Clonberne in Croke Park.

Mike Guiry's side lost to the same opposition at the semi-final stage last year.

Ballymac came through the Munster final with flying colours, putting The Banner to the sword in Mallow to win a second straight provincial title. Clare Walsh had her shooting boots laced tight that day, raising two green flags and banishing the thoughts of the tight-fought affair in 2022.

In the All-Ireland semi-final with Clan Eireann, Ballymac dominated to beat the Ulster champions 1.10 to 0.05. The Captain Aileen Wall got the goal that day in Armagh.

While the 42 times Waterford Champions have not played in a decider since 1998, they remain on top of the all-time list of All-Ireland winners with ten titles to their name.

Their opponents on Saturday,  Kilkerrin Clonberne, are looking for a third straight title having beaten Donaghmore and Mourneabbey in the last two finals.

While Ballygunner are also in action on Saturday for their All-Ireland hurling semi-final with St Thomas'.

Daragh O Sulliuvans Gunners made history two weeks ago winning a third straight Munster title. Their utterly dominant win over Clonlara put them out in front of the four other clubs who had managed to secure two in a row

They now aim to go one step further and put themselves back into the decider for the second time in the club's history.

The Gunners picked up a first-ever All-Ireland - and a first for any Waterford club - when they dramatically beat Ballyhale Shamrocks in the 2021/22 final. Harry Ruddle was the hero that day with his last-second goal breaking Ballyhale's hearts.

There will be commentary of both games on WLR on Saturday thanks to George Corbett Skoda with Ballymac underway from 4.45 pm and Ballygunner on air from 7.15 pm.
