Waterford trainer Henry de Bromhead has had a day to remember on Day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival as Bob Olinger has captured the Stayers’ Hurdle at odds of 8/1.
The 10-year-old has never been beaten at Cheltenham and made it 3 out of 3 as he struck late to deny fellow Robcour-owned favourite Teahupoo and land a double on the day for the Knockeen duo.
They had earlier won the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle as the Robcour-owned Air of Entitlement won the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at odds of 16/1.
Blackmore said: “I’ve been very lucky to get on these horses – he was brilliant. He’s got so much speed and he was able to use it there today. We went a nice gallop, a good gallop, and he still was able to pick up off the back of it.”
A delighted de Bromhead added: “Rachael was brilliant on him. We’d said if you’re going to get beaten, get beaten for coming too late. And we were lucky – we got the right side of that and she gave him a super ride and delighted for the horse. He’s an incredible horse. He had such a reputation a few years ago. Things didn’t work out as well as we thought, but seeing him come back and do that is amazing and delighted for everyone involved.”
