Waterford FC 0 - 1 Galway United
Waterford were under the cosh from the start and Galway signaled their intentions after just eight minutes when a Regan Donelon free kick was met by Vincent Borden and his header beat Paul Martin but came back off the post to Stephen Walsh who then headed over.
They got the breakthrough on twenty-two minutes from another set piece – this time it was a Ronan Manning corner from the left that was met by an unmarked Borden at the back post and he put the ball in the net.
Waterford’s only real chance in the opening period came from Chris Conn Clarke who saw his twenty-five-yard effort tipped over the bar by the experienced Brendan Clarke.
It was more of the same in the second half with Paul Martin getting down well to save from Borden after he received a short free kick from 30 yards.
The closest Waterford came to scoring was an Eddie Nolan header that Clarke also tipped over and the Tribesmen saw the game out to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
