Waterford FC 0 Sligo Rovers 0

A missed penalty has cost Waterford FC their first win of the season, with a battling performance against a resilient Sligo Rovers at the RSC ending in a scoreless draw. Jon Daly made two changes with Trae Coyle and Jorgen Voilas coming in for their first starts of the season so Evan McLaughlin and Conor Carty dropped to the bench and it was Voilas who had the first effort for Waterford as he flashed a shot past the Sligo upright after 6 minutes while Coyle tested Sam Sargeant on 15 minutes with a shot from the top of the area. Voilas was again denied six minutes before the break when his flashing header from a Conan Noonan corner was blocked on the line. Waterford's gilt edged chance came three minutes after the break when Voilas was fouled inside the area and Padraig Amond stepped up but fired the penalty off the crossbar. Minutes later Noonan was denied by a flying save from Sargeant and the home side could not find a way through a well organised and structured Sligo defence.
