Blues Retain Premier Division Status with Scoreless Draw

Waterford FC 0 Drogheda United 0

Waterford FC failed to find the net in their SSE Airtricity Premier Division encounter with Drogheda United at the RSC but the scoreless draw means that the Blues are guaranteed Premier Division football next season.

Keith Long made three changes with Shane Flynn, Ben McCormack and Christie Pattison coming in for Rowan McDonald, Sam Bellis and Kacper Radkowski who all dropped to the bench.

The game produced few chances with two free kicks coming back off the wall in the early stages for Waterford and Grant Horton tested Luke Dennison from the first while Barry Baggley forced a finger tip save from the goalkeeper with the second.

Adam Foley had Drogheda's best chance of the game when he turned and fired a low left footer to the near post but Sam Sargeant got down to palm it away for the corner.

The second half was more of the same as Dennison was the busier of the two keepers - denying Shane Flynn's long range effort on 56 minutes before diving full length to parry McCormacks free kick just after the hour.

It was Waterford's first clean sheet since July fourth and their first draw since April 19th.
