Waterford FC 4 Dundalk FC 1
Maleace Asamoah was the Waterford hat trick hero as the Blues made it three wins from three with an excellent 4-1 win over Dundalk at the RSC.
Keith Long made one change to the side that defeated Shamrock Rovers on Monday with Christie Pattisson starting in place of Robbie McCourt as the Blues seemed to adopt a more attacking formation.
They were rewarded within two minutes of the opening whistle when Maleace Asamoah pounced on a poor kick out from Ross Munro, skipped by the tackle from Zach Johnson and raced into the area before slipping the ball across Munro to the bottom corner.
The home side were caught napping on 23 minutes when Jamie Gullen found Robbie Benson with a lovely through ball and he gave Sam Sargeant no chance from close range.
Waterford restored their advantage a minute before the break when Connor Parsons got to the end line and delivered a low hard ball into the six yard box where Asamoah connected perfectly to drive the ball past Munro.
The Blues extended their lead on 53 minutes when Connor Parsons' shot was blocked by the Dundalk defence but fell to Pattisson who turned and fired high to the net.
Asamoah saved the best for last when he secured his hattrick in style 14 minutes from the end. John Mountney failed to clear the ball and it fell to Asamoah who spotted Munro off his line and curled a beautiful ball over the keeper to the net from 22 yards.
