St Patrick's Athletic 1 Waterford FC 1
Waterford FC secured a vital point after an excellent defensive display against St Patrick's Athletic at Richmond Park.
Keith Long made just one change to the side that drew with Galway last week as Robbie McCourt came in for the suspended Ryan Burke.
Waterford absorbed pressure for the opening 13 minutes of the game before finally putting together an attack which resulted in a corner. Ben McCormack floated the ball to the near post where it was met by Darragh Leahy. He headed it towards the back post where Maleace Asamoah was on hand to flick it into the net.
Asamoah was put through by Rowan McDonald on 33 minutes but he dragged his effort outside the post and just before the break, Podge Amond pounced on a ball from McCormack but again he was off target.
Waterford held firm until a triple Pats substitution rejuvenated the home side and all three were involved in the equaliser on 65 minutes as Ruari Keating and Jake Mulraney combined to find Chris Forrester whose shot was only parried by Sam Sargeant and Brandon Kavanagh was on hand to tap home.
Waterford’s defending was top notch and despite the Saints enjoying the majority of the possession, they could not find a way through and Blues secured a deserved point.
