Louis Britton popped up with two injury time goals that steered Waterford FC to an impressive 4-1 win over Bray Wanderers in the SSE Airtricity First Division as the Blues continue to sit in third spot in the league table.
Kilian Cantwell went close with an early header on five minutes when he got on the end of Patterson’s right-wing corner kick only to head over before Ben Feeney was just off target with a rare Bray first half effort on 17 minutes.
After Shane Griffin was wide with a chance that fell his way four minutes later, the Blues struck the front with a cracking goal on 23 minutes. Cantwell’s ball into the area was flicked on by Louis Britton into the path of Phoenix Patterson, who cut brilliantly in from the left before finding the far top corner with a stunning right-footed strike.
Eddie Nolan and Patterson had chances to double the advantage for Waterford before the break as they dominated the first half. Despite Kurtis Byrne, who came on at the break, firing straight at Brian Murphy on 50 minutes, the Blues dictated the second period.
Louis Britton raced clear on goal three minutes later with only keeper Stephen McGuinness to beat, but he fired straight at the netminder. The lead was doubled however a minute later when Eddie Nolan turned provider for Shane Griffin down the left, and he beat two Bray players before superbly finishing right-footed past McGuinness from 16 yards.
Roland Idowu had a chance to extend the Waterford advantage on 73 minutes when he found space out on the right-side, but he flashed a shot wide of the target before Brian Murphy comfortably saved from Kieran Waters at the other end four minutes later.
Bray Wanderers set up a nervy finish when they pulled a goal back on 87 minutes when Eoin McPhilips whipped over a right-wing corner kick to the back post where Kevin Knight powered a close-range header past Brian Murphy.
The Blues regained their two goal advantage in the final minutes when Nigel Aris played the ball down the left-channel for Louis Britton, who cut in brilliantly from the left to beat McGuinness before the same player added a fourth in second half injury time after racing onto a through ball from Eddie Nolan.
