Waterford FC 2 Cork City 0
Waterford FC got back to winning ways with a deserved win over bottom side Cork City in their SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division clash at the RSC.
In team news, John Coleman recalled Stephen McMullan between the posts while James Olayinka has been struggling with a knee injury and he is on the bench with Kyle Whyte coming back into the starting eleven.
Cork started well forcing an early corner but Waterford grew into the game and they had the breakthrough on 21′ minutes when Sam Glenfield took advantage of Cork hesitation from a kick out and he dispossessed Evan McLaughlin before planting the ball past David Odumosu into the top corner for his first goal of the season.
They nearly conceded again immediately after the goal when Malik Djiksteel raced through and when he mishit his effort the ball trickled past McMullan and across the face of the goal and out of play much to the relief of the Blues fans.
The Blues doubled their advantage on thirty six minutes when Podge Amond picked up a long ball and slipped it to Grant Horton whose flicked cross was looped over Odumosu by Tommy Lonergan.
Stephen McMullan justified his recall with a composed performance and a couple of great saves denying Kitt Nelson just before the break and then late in the second half he blocked the effort of Cork substitute Charlie Lutz.
