This was a game that started in an energetic fashion as Waterford pressed from the off and forced the visitors back.
A Dean McMenamy shot across the goal on 6 minutes was nearly met by Ronan Coughlan but the striker opened the scoring two minutes later when he rose unchallenged to head a delightful Killian Cantwell cross past Lee Steacy.
Steacy saved Cobh's blushes twice in a minute around 25 minutes when he dived full length to deny Giles Phillips and Coughlan was also close in the next move.
Waterford’s second arrived 8 minutes before the break when Roland Idowu fed Shane Griffin who flicked it over the defender before poking it into the bottom corner.
It was three nil seven minutes after the restart when Barry Baggley received the ball from Coughlan, stepped inside and blasted it to the net.
Coughlan again turned provider 6 minutes later when he intercepted the ball and found Idowu who gave Steacy no chance.
The fifth came 90 seconds from time when substitute Wassim Aouachria broke through the defence and waited for Steacy to commit before finding the net.
