Barry Baggley returns to Waterford FC for 2024 campaign

Waterford FC have announced the re-signing of Barry Baggley on-loan from Fleetwood Town FC ahead of the 2024 season.

Baggley makes a welcome return to the Blues having a played a pivotal part in Keith Long’s midfield in 2023, as Waterford secured promotion back to the top-flight of Irish football.

The midfielder played an integral part in defeating Cork City in extra-time in the Promotion Relegation Play-Off Final.

The 22-year old joined the Blues on a season-long loan back in January 2023, where he played 34 times for the Blues, netting twice and supplying 12 assists from the middle of the park.

The Northern Ireland International became a fan favourite at the RSC throughout 2023, and is a welcome addition to the Blues’ side that is gearing up for their first league game of the season at home to Shelbourne FC in just under a month’s time.

The Blues latest signing trained for the first-time on Thursday morning during the pre-season trip to sister-club Fleetwood Town. He was delighted to be back as a Blue for the season ahead:

“I’m buzzing to be back Waterford as it was somewhere where I really enjoyed playing my football last year", he told WaterfordFC.ie.

We had that success of getting promoted so I’m looking to get back and build on that this year.

“It was an easy decision; I know what I’m going back in to. I love all the boys, and I love playing there. The fans are great, and it’s going to be a good challenge this year in the Premier Division.”

Manager's reaction

Head Coach Keith Long is delighted to secure the re-signing of Baggley, adding:

“It was no secret of our desire to bring Barry back to the club. He was fantastic for us last year; a real important member of our squad. We’re absolutely delighted to get him back to Waterford.

“I think all our supporters will be happy. Obviously it’s a step-up in the Premier Division this year, but we’re going to need the players like Barry. The quality that he brings to the team in our dressing room.

“I think it’s a real positive for everyone at the club, a real positive addition to the squad for 2024. Hopefully Barry will continue to thrive and develop well in the Premier Division. We’re looking forward to seeing him back in a Blue shirt.”
