Ballymac are back in the Munster final for the first time since 2019.

Traveling to Waterville looked a daunting task for Mike Guiry's side with the Kerry Champions Southern Gaels lying in wait, but the long-standing Munster championship record holders were full value for their win.

A goal in the opening moments from former county star Michelle Ryan set the tone - a long ball from the depths of the Ballymac defense found Aileen Wall on the right wing, she found Ryan just in front of the goal. Ryan stepped around the keeper and crashed the ball into the back of the net.

Bríd McMaugh added a point shortly after to make it a two-point game with Ballymac 1.4 to the good of Gaels 2 points.

Gaels were given a stay of execution before the break with their keeper Mary Ellen Bolger making a phenomenal save to deny Ballymac - with Claire Walsh putting the rebound over the bar.

While their free taking was not up to scratch, it mattered little in the opening half as the visitors would head for the dressing rooms four points in the lead (1.5 to 0.4)

Ballymac began the second half with three scores without reply. Sinead Kenrick bagged two, with McMaugh adding an extra from the kicking tee. Siofra O'Shea hit the crossbar in the 40th minute and had it gone it, the deficit would have gone to just two points.

With 15 minutes left to go the game was put to bed by the visitors. A well-worked team goal in the 52 minutes was finished off by Sadhbh Hallinan - who had work to do to beat the keeper.

The home side came back up the field with Megan O Connoll punching a ball over the bar, but Ballymac punished the effort with substitute Maeve Ryan striking to the back of the Southern Gaels net to put the final nail in the coffin.

Ballymac will have to wait for the semi-final meeting of The Banner and Fethard on Sunday to find out who they face in the decider, but having not had a taste of the final since 2019 it will matter little who lines out opposite them.

Six goals were scored across the quarter and semi-finals without a goal conceded - Ballymac are going to be a handful for whoever they face.
