The glory days are set to continue for Ballygunner according to former Déise captain Brian Flannery.

Darragh O'Sullivan's side have seven in a row in their sights as the Waterford SHC begins this weekend. "They're on a perch at the moment and it's difficult to see which club will come out of the pack to challenge them most."

Ballygunner's strength in depth sets them apart. "In recent years, Ballygunner would have had two teams at most underage levels. Last year, they won the minor championship by 23 points. They have that conveyor belt of top quality players that no other club in the county has. Ballygunner will have two senior teams in the Waterford championship within a short period of time. It's not just the number of players but the quality of players."

He sees De La Salle and Abbeyside as the closest challengers to the Gunners in the race for the News & Star trophy.
