Ballygunner 3-24

Roanmore 0-15

Ballygunner are 63 games unbeaten and counting in the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship following another comprehensive success against Roanmore at Walsh Park this evening.

The Gunners were 3-24 to 0-15 winners to top Group B with five wins from five – they progress to the quarter-finals with a scoring difference of +98.

The Gunners are also yet to concede a goal in this year’s championship, a Gavin O’Brien penalty went wide tonight as the 11-in-a-row champions keep their perfect defensive record in tact.

Peter Hogan was the star on the night, firing 2-3 from play as the quest for a twelfth consecutive county crown shows no sign of interruption.

Eoin Cuddihy has been one of the stars of the group phase and having notched 1-7 last time out against De La Salle, the youngster grabbed the game’s opening goal with a cool low finish to the bottom left corner on 8 minutes to pick up exactly where he left off.

The Gunners got out of sight on 22 minutes once they moved into a 2-5 to 0-6 lead. Tadhg Foley played a great ball into Dessie Hutchinson and he offloaded to the onrushing Peter Hogan who blazed high to the top left corner. They went on to lead 2-9 to 0-7 at the interval.

After the break, Jason Ryan’s men further emphasised their class – notching another 1-15 in the second period. The third goal arrived in the 37th minute and Peter Hogan was on hand again to fire home.

Kevin Mahony won the sliotar and combined well with Patrick Fitzgerald, and once again Hogan made the run off the shoulder and produced a fine finish off the bottom of the left-hand post.
