Waterford trainer Henry de Bromhead has tasted success at Royal Ascot this evening.

The Ascot Stakes has gone the way of the Knockeen trainer as 20/1 shot Ascending ridden by Billy Lee saw off the Joseph O’Brien-trained Nurburgring in the home straight to land the £110,000 top prize.

It’s a first ever Royal Ascot winner for de Bromhead.

“If they’ve got the ability, it makes it a lot easier”, he told ITV Racing. “We’ve got our hands on some great horses, we’ve got a really great team – and I’m just delighted for everyone.”
