Dan Shanahan and Kieran O'Connor relived the magic of the 2004 Munster Final between Waterford and Cork on this week's Lár Na Páirce.

It's 20 years since Justin McCarthy's Déise beat Cork 3-16 to 1-21 in an all-time classic at Semple Stadium.

Paul Flynn's second half goal proved a game changer as his 30 metre free dipped under the Cork crossbar. "I would have seen Paul Flynn and Dave Bennett do these in training," Shanahan recalls. "Fifteen or twenty minutes before training, they would have been hitting the crossbar, dipping balls into the net and putting top spin on the ball. I still believe that he meant it."

The Lismore man was standing in front of Rebel netminder Dónal Óg Cusack. "You're always trying to block the vision of the goalkeeper, just to distract him. If you're only waving the hurley, it's a distraction. They weren't expecting Paul to go for goal. Were we? Anything is possible with Flynners."

Kieran O'Connor has commentated on GAA matches for WLR since 1992. He ranks that Munster final at the very top. "Nothing will ever surpass it in my view. It just had everything."
