Waterford FC recovered from their opening day defeat to Shamrock Rovers with an impressive performance against Cork City last night in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.
They proved too strong for last year's runners-up, taking the lead deep into first-half stoppage time with a goal by Bastien Héry after a pass by Scott Twine.
The Blues repeated the trick in the second half, when Zack Elbouzedi finished off a brilliant move involving Twine, Héry and Shane Duggan, with Duggan doing all the spadework.
The victory also means Cork have lost both of this season's games.
Elsewhere last night, champions Dundalk were held to a second successive draw. It finished 1-1 between the Lilywhites and Finn Harps. While three Dublin teams maintained their 100 per cent starts, as St Pat's struck late to beat Sligo 1-0, Bohemians were 2-0 victors at U-C-D while Shamrock Rovers defeated Derry City 2-0.
