Waterford booked their place in the quarter finals of the National Hurling League with a 3-15 to 0-10 victory over thirteen man Carlow in wretched wind and rain at Fraher Field last night.

Thomas Ryan, Stephen Bennett and Shane Bennett all found the net for the hosts in front of a crowd of 2,478. Top scorer Stephen Bennett claimed 1-8 (seven frees). Paraic Fanning's charges have now scored 9-65 in three Division 1B outings.

Colm Bonnar's Carlow led by 0-3 to 0-1 after eight minutes. Martin Kavanagh struck two points with Richard Coady also on target. Waterford hit back with two goals in quick succession. Ryan flicked home Shane Bennett's sideline cut in the tenth minute. Shane Bennett was also involved in the second as he set up his brother Stephen. The home side held a 2-7 to 0-7 advantage at the break as conditions worsened.

Nine minutes into the second period, Shane Bennett found the top corner of the net. Stephen Bennett sent over five frees as the contest fizzled out. Diarmuid Byrne and Ger Coady were sent off for Carlow in the second half as the visitors could only add three more points.
