Laois hurling boss Eddie Brennan believes that a hooter system should be introduced to ease the pressure on inter county referees.
The eight-time All Ireland winner with Kilkenny feels that the GAA should follow the lead of ladies football. "I would love to see them take the time aspect away from referees and let them focus on the hurling side of it. If there is a stop in play, stop the clock. If you had a hooter system, it allows the referee one less responsibility that they have to be busy with. Refs are being loaded with a hell of a lot of responsibility at the moment."
Reflecting on last weekend, Brennan claimed that Clare's Tony Kelly was unlucky to see red against Tipperary. "I don't think there was any intent." At the same time, the Graigue-Ballycallan man believes that head-high challenges need to stamped out in the game. "It's good to see it being addressed. From what I saw last year, there was definitely a lot of head-high tackles that went completely unchecked. It's a pity that they have to have their notice drawn to it because the rules are there and they should be implemented."
Ahead of Sunday's Division 1B encounter at O'Moore Park, Brennan says that Waterford are genuine contenders for Liam MacCarthy this season.
