Waterford have been relegated to Division 1(B) after defeat to Cork in this afternoon's Allianz National hurling League Relegation Play-off at a bitterly cold Pairc Uí Rínn this afternoon.
Waterford had an early goal disallowed as Patrick Curran's effort was ruled out for a square ball.
Cork did all the early running and raced into a five points to no score lead before the visitors opened their account.
Patrick Curran was hauled down inside the penalty area and the Dungarvan man buried the resultant penalty past Anthony Nash to leave it 0-5 to 1-0.
Cork responded with points from Darragh Fitzgibbon and Patrick Horgan as they held a 0-10 to 1-4 interval advantage.
Pauric Mahony hit two frees while Waterford's two scores from play came courtesy of Jamie Barron and Mikey Kearney.
Waterford upped their performance upon the resumption and early scores from Pauric Mahony along with a monster point from the hard working Tommy Ryan reduced the deficit to three points (0-12 to 1-6).
Patrick Horgan responded with a couple of points to push the Rebels further ahead by 0-16 to 1-8.
Waterford were reduced to fourteen men after Maurice Shanahan was dismissed on a straight red card in the 55th minute but despite losing a man the visitors responded with points from Tommy Ryan, Jake Dillon and Stephen Bennettt to leave just two points between the sides entering the final six minutes.
However it was Cork who finished the stronger hitting four successive points through Patrick Horgan, Colm Spillane and a brace from substitute Daniel Kearney.
Tadhg De Búrca completed the scoring with the final point of the game, it ended CORK 0 - 21 WATERFORD 1 - 13.
