Jamie enjoyed a highlight reel All-Ireland campaign, which included a stunning man of the match performance in the semi-final win over Cork which saw him score 2-1 from play.

He was also instrumental in securing Waterford's first championship win over Kilkenny in 60 years.

Accepting his award last night, Jamie acknowledged the quality of the ten other monthly winners in contention and said that Waterford's championship wins over Cork and Kilkenny were the highlights of his 2017.

"The feeling at the final whistle in both of them where we got back into the dressing room together as a team and we could just celebrate as a team were the most enjoyable moments of the year for me."

Last night also saw the introduction of the inaugural 'Kevin Casey Emerging Young GAA Player Award', in memory of our late colleague and sports broadcaster.

The winner, Annie Fitzgerald, captured a litany of underage titles across both codes last year, including the u-16 ladies' football All Ireland B final, u-16 and minor championships with Gaultier as well as being a part of the St. Angela's Ursuline side that won All-Ireland junior camogie and ladies' football titles.

Annie paid tribute to her teammates saying that the success was "easy enough when you have a good bunch of girls around you."
