County board chairman Sean Michael O'Regan says that a review of Waterford football will be carried out in the next couple of months.
The Déise senior team are currently bottom of Division 4 and haven't won a competitive game since May 2021. Manager Ephie Fitzgerald called for a root and branch review of Waterford football two weeks ago.
O'Regan told WLR's Lár Na Páirce show that discussions will take place in the near future. "I've been talking with Ephie myself on that. I've reached out to a couple of individuals who are going to come back to me as regards leading up a football review. It will probably involve ex players, officers of both the adult board and Bord na nÓg, ex managers, teachers that doing football within primary and secondary schools, development squads and club officers. There will be discussions with regards to where are we with football and what we want to achieve."
The board spent €289,000 on the senior team last year. O'Regan says that they are fully committed to the inter county game. "Some people have the perception that Waterford football isn't being looked out for and cared for. With minor, Under 20 and senior inter county football teams, the county board have never been found wanting. Ephie knows his football and Peter Leahy knows his football and we've invested in those people as well. We are doing all we possibly can."
