Ballygunner's wait for a second Munster Club Senior hurling Championship title goes on after they lost out to a sharper Na Piarsaigh outfit in the Provincial decider at Semple Stadium this afternoon.
The Limerick champions have maintained their one hundred per cent record in Munster, pulling well clear in the end to record a flattering eight point win against a Gunners side who battled to the end.
The first half was tight and tense both neither side giving an inch, a well taken goal from Conor Power saw the Waterford champions hold a narrow 1-4 to 0-6 lead at half-time, as Na Piarsaigh struck the last three points of the half.
Pauric Mahony, Peter Hogan and Billy O’Keeffe all pointed in quick succession on the re-start as the Gunners began to assert their dominance on proceedings before David Breen got the Limerick sides first goal.
Na Piarsaigh picked up the pace from here and with Adrian Breen in fine form they began to get on top, before Ballygunner were given a lifeline when Peter Hogan finished to the net from close range.
The Limerick champions responded swiftly with a goal from Adrian Breen after the Gunners failed to clear their lines, and this was the crucial score of the game.
David Breen netted his second goal late on, as Peter Casey and Kevin Downes also chipped on with points for Na Piarsaign who won their fourth Munster title.
Ballygunner long year has come to a disappointing end but they can proud of their efforts throughout a long season.
