Two-time All Ireland winner with Tipperary Brendan Cummins believes that Liam Cahill has already made his mark with the Waterford hurlers. Their come from behind win against Cork was a positive start for the new manager.
"He has made a big impact. The statement couldn't have been clearer in Walsh Park when they found themselves two goals down after three minutes. They came back into the game through sheer hard work and effort. That's the big transformation I've seen; he has got the lads playing for each other."
Cummins hurled alongside Cahill during the nineties and noughties with the Premier County. "He was very straight. He was very hard on himself. If he made a mistake, he was banging the hurley off the ground. He had huge expectations of himself and he delivered more often than not."
He was impressed by the job Cahill did with the Tipperary under 21s in 2018. "They lost the Munster final, were hammered by Cork below in Cork and it looked like Tipp were wasting their time until they met Cork in Limerick two or three months later. He completely transformed the aggression of the team, that's what struck all of us in Tipp. They blew Cork away in that game and doubled down on it the following year. He knows how to get the job done. He has the challenge now of doing it with a senior group so he's very driven. We're seeing that from him. All in all, Waterford have got a very good package in terms of the management set-up. The message to the players is 'it's over to you now to deliver' and so far they have."
