45 year old shot stopper JP Fitzpatrick has been an inspirational figure in St Mary's run to Sunday's Munster junior hurling final.

Two fantastic second half saves helped them past Carrick Davins two weeks ago. Fitzpatrick hurled for the Waterford minors in the 1992 All Ireland final but it took him until 2019 to claim a county title.

"All through his hurling life, he never won a county final in any grade until this year," says chairman Brendan Tobin. "Everyone is so delighted for JP. When you see him in goals against Carrick, you'd think he was a 20 year old! He was diving over and back and stopping bullets!"

He still has more to give in Tobin's view. "With the last two or three years, he was talking about retiring. Now, he doesn't have any notion of retiring!"
