Borris-ileigh landed their first Munster Club SHC title since 1986 after a narrow and hard fought win over Ballygunner in difficult weather conditions at Pairc Uí Rinn this afternoon.

Heavy rain made it difficult for fancy hurling, but both sides gave it everything and in the end just one point separated the sides.

The Gunners held a three point lead at the interval (0-9 to 0-6) with Dessie Hutchinson notching three from play, while Pauric Mahony chipped in with four frees.

The Tipp champions, inspired by centre back Brendan Maher got the top in the third quarter and thundered into the game with a Kieran Maher goal leveling up proceedings. Two inspirational scores from Brendan Maher put Borris two in front (1-9 to 0-10) with ten minutes remaining.

Ballygunner responded in style though, a brilliant pass from Dessie Hutchinson picked out Barry O' Sullivan who finished to the net to put the Waterford champions back in front.
