Republic of Ireland legend Alan McLoughlin dies aged 54

Former Republic of Ireland international Alan McLoughlin has died, aged 54.

The former Portsmouth and Swindon Town midfielder revealed in March that he was suffering with cancer - which he was first treated for in 2012.

McLoughlin was capped 42 times and is most remembered for the goal he scored against Northern Ireland to seal qualification for the 1994 World Cup.

That was his first goal in a green shirt which he wore first in 1990 and he continued playing until 1999.
